Personnel

Metro Communications operates efficiently with an Agency Director, Assistant Director, 3 Shift Supervisors, 3 Assistant Supervisors, a Training Supervisor, a CAD Manager, a QA Manager, 7 Training Officers, 25 dispatchers, a radio technician supervisor, a radio technician specialist, and an Office Assistant.

 

All of our  Metro dispatchers are cross trained to work any position in the dispatch center.  Currently our center supports  9 dispatch consoles.  These include, 2 Police, 1 County Law Enforcement, 1 Fire, 1 Fire Back Up, 2 Call Taking, , 1 Data and 1 Supervisor console.   In August 2007, 4 additional call taking consoles will be added to accommodate the staff positions approved. 

 

Staffing levels are adjusted seasonally and according to events occurring  in our area.  On average we staff a minimum of 7 dispatchers per shift to adequately handle the daily activity in our community.

 

Metro Communications is funded jointly by the City of Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County.  The operating budget is funded from the 9-1-1 surcharge collected by the telephone carriers.

Tactical Dispatch Team

 

Among the dispatch staff, Metro also has a select group of Certified Tactical Dispatchers.  Our Tactical Dispatch Team is deployed with the local SWAT teams  to provide support and on Tactical Dispatch Team

scene dispatch capabilities to the Incident Commander during critical incidents.  The Tactical Dispatchers train with the SFPD SWAT team on a quarterly basis and respond to call-outs as requested by the Incident Commander.

The CARE Committee is made up of  7 members and chaired by the Assistant Director.  The Committee was created to recognize/appreciate employees and promote public education and recruitment.  CARE stays busy throughout the year with activities such as the 9-1-1 Citizen’s Academy, National Telecommunicator’s Week, School presentations, Job Fairs, Fire Safety, holidays and employee recognition ceremonies, i.e. retirements, anniversaries etc...
