Citizens Academy

Metro Communication’s 911 Citizen’s Academy was developed to promote education within the community of our 911 system.  Our academy consists of seven hours of classroom and four hours of scheduled observation time in our 911 Center.  The seven hour class is held on two consecutive Tuesdays from 6:00pm to 9:30pm.  During this time, participants will learn Metro’s role within the community and acquire an understanding of what happens behind the scenes from the time a 911 call is received, to the time the responders arrive on scene at the emergency.  Participants will have the opportunity to engage in activities that will test their dexterity and demonstrate a dispatcher’s ability to multi-task, as well as listening to dramatic 911 recordings and radio traffic.

During the four hours of observation, participants will sit side by side with a dispatcher and will be able to hear actual 911 calls and live radio transmissions.  This experience will allow them to witness the dynamics of the entire 911 system in action.

Our next academy will be held on October 5th and October 12th.
