The 911 Citizen’s Academy was developed to promote public education on the 911 system within the community.   Our academy consists of  8 hours of classroom and  4 hours of scheduled observation time in the 911 Center.   The 8 hour class is held on a Saturday.  During that time, participants will learn Metro’s role within the community and acquire an understanding of what happens behind the scenes from the time a call is received to the time the responders arrive at the emergency.  Participants will have the opportunity to engage in activities that will test their dexterity and demonstrate a dispatcher’s ability to multi-task.

During the scheduled 4 hours of observation,  participants will sit side by side with a dispatcher and be able to hear real  9-1-1 calls and live radio transmissions.  This experience will allow academy participants to witness the entire 9-1-1 system in action firsthand.
